Zhang Yi (Junsi)

Zhang Yi (Chinese张 裔), farm name ( Zi) Boyi (君 嗣, * 167;? † 230 ) was a civilian administrator of the Chinese Shu Han Dynasty.

Originally he was the governor and warlord Liu Zhang in Sichuan. When Liu Bei's invasion in the year 211 he was sent by Liu Zhang after Deyang to fend off Liu Bei. However, Zhang Yi could not be maintained and submitted himself after his defeat against Liu Bei's general Zhang Fei the Conqueror. He climbed under the new master quickly in the civil administration and was praised by the strategist Zhuge Liang as one of Liu Zhang's ablest men. Around the year 216 he was sent as an administrator to suppress several revolts of smaller warlords in Nanzhong, but lost the battle and was taken prisoner. The rebels sent Zhang Yi to the warlord Sun Quan, who incarcerated him.

After Liu Bei's death in 223 to Shu Han and Sun Quan ( Wu ) tried to renew their old alliance. Zhuge Liang sent his officers Deng Zhi as ambassador to Sun Quan and also gave him the order to obtain Zhang Yi's release. After Sun Quan had received the Ambassador, he let Zhang Yi bring and was impressed by his knowledge and demeanor. He let them go both, but the decision later regretted and sent troops behind to return Zhang Yi. Just in time reached Deng Zhi and Zhang Yi the border to Shu Han and escaped his pursuers.
