Zheng Zhong

Zheng Zhong (郑 众chinese /郑 众, Pinyin Zheng Zhong ), farm name Jìchǎn (季 产; † 107) was a eunuch of the Chinese Han Dynasty. He was the first member of his group, who exercised influence on the rule.

Zheng Zhong came from the Nanyang Commandery ( roughly present-day Nanyang, Henan ), from which came the imperial family. He was said to be prudent, active and a more profound thinker. He first served in the household Emperor Zhang's, when he was still crown prince of his father Emperor Ming. After Emperor Zhang had 75 ascended the throne, he entrusted Zheng Zhong with the post of Imperial overseer (Chinese中 常侍).

After Emperor Zhang's death (88 ) his widow, Empress Dowager Dou, the regency for the young successor to He. At the time, Zheng Zhong served as Head of the Imperial Gardens (Chinese钩 盾 令). Zheng Zhong became a confidant of the Empress Deng Sui. So he kept his influence even after the emperor's death (106 ), when the Empress took over for his successor Shang and to the regency. For his support rewarded Zheng Zhong 107 300 additional households for his marrow. The eunuch died the same year.

Zheng Zhong was the first eunuch of the Later Han Dynasty, which was awarded a Marquess. ( Under the Former Han Dynasty, the eunuch Xu Guanghan (许广汉) had been bestowed this honor, but only because his daughter Xu Pingjun was charged by Emperor Xuan Empress. )
