Zhengguo Canal

The Zheng - Guo Channel (Chinese郑国 渠, Pinyin Zheng Guo qu or Zhongguoqu, English Zhengguo Canal or Canal Chengkuo ) is a large channel in China, which was completed 246 BC in the ancient kingdom of Qin. It was built by Zheng Guo.

The canal brought the waters of the River Jing Shui (泾 水) from Zhongshan (in today's circle Jingyang, Shaanxi Province) over 150 km westward to the river Luo Shui (洛水) and so supplied the dry central Shaanxi plain ( Guanzhong关 中 ) with sufficient water.

The channel was originally part of a directed against his rival Qin project of the king of the state Han to excavate him the water. The Qin, however, included the construction work successfully and the shot backfired because he irrigated thousands of square kilometers of additional arable land and the Kingdom of sufficient funds delivered, already immense army continues to increase.

To date, the land surrounding the Zheng Guo Canal is particularly fruitful.

The three major water construction projects in ancient China the pre- Han period were:

  • Zheng Guo - channel
  • The Dujiangyan Irrigation System
  • The "Magic Channel" ( Lingqu )

The channel is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 4-31 ) since 1996.
