Zhonghua Book Company

Shuju Zhonghua (Chinese中华书局/中华书局, Pinyin Zhōnghuá Shuju ) is a publishing company in China with a focus on humanities, especially on classical Chinese works. The headquarters is in Beijing.

History

The publishing house was founded in January 1912 by educators Lufei Kui in Shanghai. With the aim to serve the " enlightenment of the people", especially textbooks and understandable works on science and culture were published initially. So the publisher contributed to the promotion of modern education and has rapidly developed into a modern enterprise. The publications covered a wide range of books on China, on social and natural sciences, on the antiquity to the present.

1958 Zhonghua became a publisher of ancient and modern classics in the humanities. Since then, Zhonghua published a large number of classics of literature, history, philosophy and language as well as significant encyclopedias. Significant editorial services among many others, for example the large publication projects of the 24 dynastic histories, the Zizhi Tongjian and Qing Shigao.

Since its inception, over 20,000 titles were published in this publishing.
