Zizhi Tongjian

The Zizhi Tongjian (Chinese资治通鉴/资治通鉴, Pinyin Zizhi Tongjian, W.-G. Tzu -chih T'ung- chien, Combined time mirror to help in the government ') is a Chinese historical work with annalistischem character. It comprises 294 volumes with about three million words. The main author of the work is Sima Guang, who also took over earlier events and data from the classic works of history. His work covers the period from the time of the Warring States (403 BC ) to the end of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms ( 959 AD) in chronological order. It was built in the years 1065-1084.
