Zhou Youguang

Zhou Youguang (Chinese周有光, Pinyin Zhou Yǒuguāng; actually周耀平Chinese, Pinyin Zhou Yaoping; born January 13, 1906 in Changzhou) is a Chinese economist and linguist.

As a representative of a Chinese bank he lived from 1946 to 1949 in New York City. From 1949 to 1955 he taught as a professor of economics at Fudan University in Shanghai, by the way, he heard lectures on linguistics. 1956 to 1988 he was a member of the Chinese writing reform committee. He is regarded as the inventor of pinyin, the official transliteration of the Chinese in Latin script.
