The Ziehl- Abegg SE (until 2013, Ziehl -Abegg AG ) is a German manufacturer of fans for ventilation and air conditioning technology as well as drive motors for elevators. The company's headquarters is located in Künzelsau in Hohenlohe.

History

1897 Emil Ziehl designed the first external rotor motor. In 1910 he founded the Ziehl- Abegg Electricity Company in Berlin. For a company headquarters was built on the industrial railway 12-16 in Berlin- Weissensee. His business partners Abegg soon left the company. In 1949 the reconstruction of the company Ziehl-Abegg in the Künzelsauer Castle Mill by the brothers Günther and Heinz Ziehl. In 1960 the production of an external rotor motor as the fan drive. 1973 was the beginning of internationalization and 2001 was followed by the conversion into a joint stock company by the family.

Sales offices exist in Poland, China, Russia, USA, Czech Republic, Sweden, the UK, Finland, France, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Austria, Ukraine, Spain, Benelux, South Africa, Japan, Turkey, India & Brazil.

The founder of several competitors ( Gebhardt, ebm -papst, Rosenberg fans) were employed prior to the respective starting their own businesses at Ziehl -Abegg. William Gebhardt was previously employed in the development of Ziehl- Abegg and Charles Rosenberg was employed in sales at Ziehl -Abegg, before in 1981 he founded his own company.

Products

In the air technology Axial and centrifugal fans are manufactured with a diameter of 190 up to 1400 mm as well as motors and matched control technology. Examples of the applications include, inter alia, the heat and cold and clean room technology.

In the field of drive technology, electric motors for elevators, medical applications such as computer tomographs and for buses to be developed.

Ziehl -Abegg Automotive

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012 the subsidiary Ziehl- Abegg Automotive presented under the name ZAwheel a gearless hub drive for buses and other commercial vehicles with synchronous external rotor motor. Equipped with ZAwheel buses since 2008 wrong already in line operation, including in Apeldoorn ( " The Whisperer " ) and Rotterdam ( " eBusz "). The model ZAwheel SM530 with 125 kW has a maximum torque of 6000 Nm. The efficiency is 90%. The retrofit into conventional buses with diesel engine should also be possible.

It produces air-technical facilities, special electric motors, axial and radial fans and accessories for agriculture, mechanical engineering, air conditioning and refrigeration industry.
