Zilla Diodia is a spider from the family of the Real orb-weaving spiders. It is the only species of the genus, which is found in Central Europe.

Description

Zilla Diodia is a small orb weaver. The females are 3.5 to 4.5 mm in size, the males 2.5 to 3.0 mm. The rear body ( opisthosoma ) has a light brown - white base pattern. The rear part comprises a dark sheet drawing. At the front edge there is a characteristic T-shaped, rounded, white drawing, where the species is easy to recognize. In between would generally be dark, interrupted in the middle horizontal stripes.

The front body ( prosoma ) is light brown, dark brown in the eye area. The legs have a light brown color and are curled dark.

Habitat and behavior

Zilla Diodia prefers dry locations, mostly in and on the edge of coniferous and deciduous forests and bushes. There they usually builds her orb at low altitude. The networks of Zilla Diodia often have a very high number of spokes (40-50 ) and Klebfadenumgängen on (50-60 ). Mature animals are found in the April to June.

Dissemination

Zilla Diodia comes into Europe and eastwards before to Azerbaijan. It is widely used in Germany and not compromised, but not frequently.
