Zingel
Nerd ( nerd zingel )
The spindle perch ( zingel ) are a genus of the family of real perch, which occurs in the region of the Rhone, the Danube and the Vardar.
Features
Spindle perch reach a length of about 15 to 50 centimeters. The name derives from the spindle-shaped body with very slender caudal peduncle. The eyes are equipped with a tapetum lucidum; they can move independently (like the chameleon ). The mouth is inferior and a horseshoe. Along the lateral line organ are about 40 scales. The two dorsal fins are separated by a substantial gap. The anal fin has 10 to 13 1/2 branched rays, which sets them apart from the genus Romanichthys with 7 1/ 2 beams. The swim bladder is absent.
System
The genus can be attributed to four types:
- Rhone- nerds ( Zingel asper ) (Linnaeus, 1758) (also: Rhone nerd, Roi du Doubs)
- Zingel balcanicus ( Karaman, 1937)
- Nerd ( nerd zingel ) ( Siebold, 1863)
- Zingelen ( zingel zingel ) (Linnaeus, 1766 )
