The Narrow-leaved Zinnia ( Zinnia angustifolia ) is a plant of the genus Zinnia ( Zinnia ) in the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

The Narrow-leaved zinnia is an annual plant that reaches the plant height of 25 to 40 centimeters. The leaves are linear - lanceolate, measuring 20 to 70 × 4 to 8 millimeters and are about seven times as long as wide. The flower heads have a diameter of 3.5 to 5 centimeters. The black- red disk flowers have bald tail and thick, blunt and recurved tips. The ray florets are yellow orange with a yellow center stripe. The fruit has an awn.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

Occurrence

The Narrow-leaved zinnia occurs on pastures in northern and western Mexican highlands.

Use

The Narrow-leaved Zinnia is scattered used as an ornamental plant for summer flower beds and borders and as a cut flower. It is in culture at least since 1887. There are some varieties.
