Žižkov Television Tower

The Prague Zizkov TV tower or Fernsehturm ( Žižkovská televizní vEz, also Žižkovský vysílač ) in Prague's Zizkov Television Tower is a publicly accessible.

Description

The unusual structure consists of three 134 -meter-high, steel -clad concrete pillars on which the premises for the broadcast technology, the viewing platform and the tower restaurant attached. The calculated maximum deviation from the vertical at the top of the tower is 120 centimeters; Oscillations are damped by special shuttle elements.

The tower is open to the public 216 meters high and has 63 meters in height, a tower restaurant and 95 meters a glazed viewing platform. The tower is used in addition to the distribution of TV and FM radio programs as an observation tower as well as a meteorological station.

History

Construction of the Prague TV tower in 1985, its opening on 18 February 1992. The unusual design was deliberately designed as a contrast to the historic buildings in the heart of Prague. For this purpose, said the architect Václav Aulický:

"His overall appearance should exclude from the outset the possibility of a direct comparison, or even compete with the important buildings of the old town. "

Affixed to the pillars of the tower in 2000, stylized sculptures of crawling around small children come from the Czech sculptor David Černý. In addition, the columns are strikingly at night in the Czech national colors white, red and blue illuminated.
