Znauri

Snauri (Georgian ზნაური or ყორნისი / Qornissi, Ossetian Знауыр / Snauyr, Russian Знаури / Snauri or Знаур / Snaur ) is an urban-type settlement in South Ossetia.

The place was originally called Okona and was named in the Soviet period, in 1933, after the Ossetian Revolutionary Snaur Aidarow; the Georgian and common in the Russian form of the name was henceforth Snauri, the Ossetian Snauyr. After flaring up of the conflict in South Ossetia, the Georgian authorities gave the village in 1991 the Georgian name Qornissi, which was not recognized by the local Ossetian authorities. These use the previous name on, in the form of Russian Snaur without the " Georgian " End -i is common today.

According to Georgian law, the settlement belongs to Rajon Gori of Inner Kartli region. Within the internationally unrecognized Republic of South Ossetia Snauri is the capital of its own named after him Rajons. The local economy Snauris consists of companies in the wood processing and food production.
