Zombie (Cocktail)

The zombie is a very strong cocktail of rum and fruit juices, which was named after its effect on the consumer. He first appeared in the 1930s and was designed by Donn Beach (actually Ernest Raymond Beaumont- Gannt ) invented an entrepreneur who owned, among others, the restaurant Don the Beachcomber in Hollywood. Supposedly he mixed it in 1934 one afternoon for a hungover friend who dropped in to this restaurant before departing for San Francisco. After taking three zombies to himself, he went out again. When he returned several days later, he said he had felt during the whole flight as an undead, hence the name zombie.

There are all sorts of recipe variations, which mainly have in common that they contain at least three, but often five or six kinds of rum, including high alcohol content (over 70 %). These may come fruit liqueurs and mainly produce various kinds of fruit juices. The gentle, fruity taste causes the alcohol content of about 18% is veiled. For years, limited the Don the Beachcomber Zombie on the two pieces per customer, which was about seven or eight of the usual cocktail of alcohol put forth.
