Zongo

Zongo is a city in the province of Equateur the Democratic Republic of Congo with 28 105 inhabitants ( 2004). It lies on the south bank of the Ubangi River across from Bangui in the Central African Republic. Zongo is linked by ferry to Bangui, has lost as a transportation hub in importance as a large portion of the traffic in the late 1980s shifted further to the east.

Since the overthrow of Mobutu Zongo was dominated by the Mouvement de Libération du Congo. 2001, the city experienced an influx of refugees from the Central African Republic. 2002, a coup attempt took place in Bangui, for the former, according to the Central African government soldiers, who were among these refugees were responsible.
