Zoological Museum of Kiel University

The Zoological Museum of Kiel, together with the Museum of Ethnology in a museum institution of the University of Kiel.

The exhibitions show different exhibits on whales, including the only skeleton of a blue whale and a White Wales in Germany, a systematic exhibition on the biosystematics of the animals, about 300 specimens of European birds, the ecology of butterflies and 2010 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Karl August Möbius and the 200th birthday of William Behn exhibits on the history of zoological research in Kiel.

Then there are the personal collections of Johann Daniel Major, Johann Christian Fabricius, and Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann.

The collections of several meereszoologischer expeditions are kept in the museum, including the Galathea Expedition (1845-1847), the Albatross Expedition (1876-1885), the German Plankton Expedition in 1889, the first German deep-sea expedition ( 1898-1899 ) and, headed by Erich von Drygalski first German South Polar expedition ( 1901-1903 ).

In collaboration with the Cluster of Excellence " The Future Ocean" are since 30 June 2011 at the 1st floor of the Martin- Gropius-Bau to around 70 square meters, the current research topics of the cluster presented.
