Zürichsee-Fähre Horgen–Meilen

The Zurich - ferry Horgen AG -mile ( FHM ) is a Swiss public company and operates year-round ferry service on Lake Zurich between Horgen and miles.

Ferry service

Usually a 10 minute clock is used by 6:00 bis 22:00 clock ensured at peak times a 7,5 or 6 minutes. The ferry shortens the route for private transport from the Zürcher Oberland in central Switzerland, without the detour via the causeway from Rapperswil (around 18 km south-easterly situated ) and by the city of Zurich ( about 15 kilometers north- west location ) to accept. The journey takes about 10 minutes.

A high proportion of trips allocated to the commuters between the two lake shores.

The five driving ships transported in 2011 with 69,950 times in total 2,192,175 people, 1,226,540 passenger cars and 99 470 trucks at its roughly three -mile route.

History

The Zurich - ferry Horgen miles AG was founded on 27 August 1932 in miles. The 54 shareholders recorded an initial capital of 260,000 Swiss francs. The 6,000 shares of profitable Swiss shipping company are not listed and traded only over the counter.

After technical teething problems with the first ferry swan was taken on November 4, 1933, the ferry service every half hour.

Between 1942 and 1946, the operation had to be stopped, a consequence of the Second World War. From summer 1946, the ferry wrong every hour, and in time to 1968, demand rose so that a continuous shuttle operation had to be introduced.

1969 solved the new ferry from the Swan elderly veterans. As of 1975, the clock has been increased steadily as a result of demand and reached 2003 with the commissioning of the now fifth ferry at peak times today 6-minute clock.

Fleet

The Zurich - ferry Horgen miles AG has five ferries (FS ), which were built by the Bodan -Werft GmbH Metal Kressbronn ( Germany ). The fleet consists of the diesel engine ferries

  • Schwan ( Commissioning: September 1, 1969, overhauled 1999)
  • FS miles ( Start: September 3, 1979)
  • FS Horgen (commissioned 26 May 1991)
  • FS Zürisee ( Commissioning: August 15, 1999 )
  • FS castle ( start: September 5, 2003)

The ferries are thanks to her Voith-Schneider drive - two propellers are installed in the longitudinal axis of the ships - is extremely agile, able to turn without changing position, and have an extremely short stopping distance of 1 ½ boat lengths ( about 80 meters).
