Zygmunt Kamiński

Zygmunt Kaminski ( born February 22, 1933 Wzgórze - Bełżyce near Lublin, Poland, † May 1, 2010 in Szczecin, Poland) was Archbishop of Stettin - Pomerania.

Life

After studying theology at the Catholic Diocesan Seminary Zygmunt Kaminski received on 22 December 1956, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated by Bishop Piotr Kałwa in the Archdiocese of Lublin. He was then chaplain in Piaski ( 1957-1959 ). Between 1959 and 1961 he studied at the Faculty of Canon Law at the Catholic University of Lublin, where he also received his doctorate in 1971. He was pastor in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Lublin (1961-1963) and St. Theresa in Lublin ( 1963-1966 ). In 1966 he was in the Lublin church administration as a notary public, secretary working for the youth work and catechesis. In 1975 he became director of the Department of Pastoral of the Diocese.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on October 28, 1975 Titular Bishop of Midica and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Lublin. He received his episcopal consecration of the Lublin Archbishop Bolesław Pylak on November 30th of the same year. Were the co-consecrators to bishops Jan Mazur, Józef Drzazga Jan Gurda and Marian Jozef Rechowicz. Between 1975 and 1984 he was also Vicar General, dean of the cathedral chapter of Lublin, professor of canon law at the Seminary and the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Lublin. As a bishop he was in the years 1976 to 1984, pastor of the Cathedral parish in Lublin.

On January 10, 1984, Pope John Paul II called for Coadjutor Bishop in the Diocese of Płock, where he became its successor as Resident Bishop after the death of the local diocesan bishop Marian Bogdan Sikorski on 4 February 1988. On 1 May 1999 he was appointed John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Stettin - Pomerania and thus to the metropolitan of the ecclesiastical province of the same name. The official inauguration ( enthronement ) in Szczecin took place on 23 May of the same year.

In the Polish Episcopal Conference, he held various offices; he was chairman of the Committee for regulating the relations of church and state, a member of the joint commission of the Polish Episcopate and the Government, a member of the Economic Council of the Polish Bishops' Conference and Vice- President of the Association " Wspólnota Polska ". Furthermore, Kaminski was Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Polish Bishops' Conference.

21 February 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. Kamiński reasons of age pre- mounted resignation to. Until the official inauguration of his successor Andrzej Dzięga he headed the Archdiocese of Szczecin - Pomerania as Apostolic Administrator further.

He was honored on October 24, 2009 with the honorary doctorate by the University of Szczecin.
