The range extends from North Africa to Arabia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Russia, Romania, Turkey to Pakistan and Afghanistan. In Sardinia, France and Spain, there are neophytes. In many areas in the United States is the beans like Jochblatt an invasive plant.

This species needs a light to medium, dry ground. You can not grow in shady places and is also not very cold- tolerant.
