1928 Mitropa Cup

The Mitropa Cup in 1928 was the second edition of the International Cupwettbewerbs. It participated in the Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia best teams. It was mostly for the championship and cup winners of the respective countries. The participants played in the Cup mode with pure round-trip playing in the major continental football competition in the period before the Second World War. If tied after two games a play was performed. All eight club started in the first round or in the quarterfinals. The defending champions Sparta Prague experienced a surprisingly at the national level do not qualify for the Cup.

The final took place within two weeks on 28 October and 11 November 1928 in Budapest and Vienna. It qualified the Hungarian champions Ferencvaros Budapest and the year finalist SK Rapid Wien, both in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals could prevail only in a playoff. At home the Ferencvárosi FC won the first leg 7-1 after a defeat and took with 3:5 on the Hohenwarte Providentia for the first time in Hungary.
