1937 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 11th World Ice Hockey Championships and 22 Hockey Championship took place from 17 to 27 February 1937 in London, United Kingdom. The competition format was changed only slightly compared to the Olympic tournament last year. Since only eleven teams took part in this World Cup ( it was missing including the USA), an adaptation of the competition format was required. So there were only three preliminary round groups, there were two groups with four teams and one group of three teams. Play the first three of the four groups and the first two of the three group reached the second round. The second round was played again in two groups of four; the top two teams of each group reached the final round, the other teams played in a placement round for places 5-8. In contrast to last year, scored in the second round direct comparisons were not carried into the final round.
The Canadians succeeded an impressive revenge against the British, who could not use a successful title defense from the home advantage. For Canada, it was the ninth world title for Britain meant the World Championship the third European title.
