1970–71 DDR-Oberliga

The 1970/71 season was the 22nd edition of the DDR Oberliga. Champion for the second time the SG Dynamo Dresden. The season began on 22 August 1970 and ended on 16 June 1971.

Course of the season

Dynamo Dresden secured superior to the championship. On 23 Round Dresdner were unassailable before Carl Zeiss Jena at the top and thus won the first championship since 1953. Defending champion Jena was second ahead of the HFC chemistry, with the third place, the second-best finish of his league history ( after the championship 1952 ) reached. They were followed Magdeburg and the Movers Union Berlin, whose fifth place in the table meant the best league placing of all time for the Berlin club.

However, there was disappointment in the league founding member Chemie Leipzig, as the chemist had to dismount for the first time. Over the next 20 years, chemistry was represented only seven times in the top division. Leipzig was accompanied by Rot-Weiß Erfurt; for the Erfurt it was the fourth descent. The Erfurt had before the last match two points ahead Stahl Riesa. By a 1-3 defeat at BFC Dynamo and a simultaneous victory of Riesaer home against Erfurt Rostock but not holding the class.

Goals

In the 182 point games were 508 goals, an average of 2.79 per game. The highest-scoring game with ten goals was Carl Zeiss Jena - Sachsenring Zwickau 7-3 in the opening round. The biggest win was the 6-1 of chemistry hall against Rot-Weiß Erfurt 18 games.

Hans -Jürgen Kreische of the SG Dynamo Dresden was top scorer in the league for the first time. It was his first of four league crowns scorer ( a record that only reached Joachim Streich ). In total, 146 players were characterized as scorers, were added 15 own goals.

Three players get a hat-trick in a game: Sammer (Dresden) against Jena ( Sp 2 ), P.Ducke ( Jena ) against the BFC ( Sp 6 ) and Kreische (Dresden ) to Chemie Leipzig (11th Sp ). In addition, Vogel ( Jena ) scored against Zwickau ( 1 Sp ) and Lischke ( Riesa ) against Lok Leipzig ( 20 Sp ) also scored three goals in an encounter. It 60 Penalties were imposed, of which 45 were transformed. Manfred Geisler of Lok Leipzig met seven times, Hartmut Rentzsch from Zwickau met six times, Hans -Jürgen Kreische from Dresden and Peter Ducke from Jena met five times each on the head.

Audience

A total of 2.1405 million viewers watched the 182 league games, which gives an average of 11,761 spectators per game. The highest average attendance again recorded Dresden ( 22 769 ), Hall ( 17,615 ) and Chemie Leipzig ( 15,538 ), while at the end the spectator table also as in previous years the two Berlin clubs Dynamo ( 5583 ) and Next ( 6846 ) respectively. The largest number of spectators meant 40,000 for the game Sachsenring Zwickau - bismuth Aue on 20th matchday. Least Viewers ( 2500 ) were ( eleventh Matchday) at play between forward and Berlin Sachsenring Zwickau.

Miscellaneous

  • 295 players were used, which were 35 in all league matches this.
  • There were 109 home wins, 47 draws and 26 Away Games.
  • 3 Field references and 257 warnings imposed the referees, with 19 players had to pause after the third yellow card.

Player of the year

After the season was first honored as Player of the Year 1970 Peter Ducke from FC Carl Zeiss Jena. It was the second award consecutively for the Ducke family as Peter's brother Roland Ducke had won the title the previous year. Jürgen Croy of the BSG Sachsenring Zwickau landed in the vote just behind Ducke.

Fdgb Cup

The fdgb Cup was won this season by the newly crowned champion Dynamo Dresden, which thus crowned his successful season with the first double in the GDR football. Dresden inferior opponent in the final was the BFC Dynamo, who thus qualified for the international competition. It was the first of four meetings, the two major Dynamo teams in the Cup final ( all of which Dresden won ).

International Competitions

After the self-imposed boycott of the UEFA competitions last year, were the East German teams again this season in the European Cup of Champion and European Cup Winners' Cup. Here, the master Carl Zeiss Jena and cup winners Vorwärts Berlin were a great success. After victories over Fenerbahce and Sporting Lisbon Jena difference only against Red Star Belgrade in the quarter- finals. Likewise, wide came the Berlin who beat FC Bologna and Benfica before they were eliminated against PSV Eindhoven. In last times discharged Cities Fairs Cup Dynamo Dresden already retired in the second round against the later Cup winners Leeds United. After a 0-1 at Leeds was not enough a 2-1 victory the people of Dresden to progress. Like last year sent the DFV for the Intertoto Cup in 1970 no teams.
