1990 World Men's Handball Championship

The 12th World Handball Championship for men was held in Czechoslovakia from 28 February to 10 March 1990. A total of 16 teams entered in the tournament. World Champion was Sweden, which defeated in the finals with the USSR 27:23. The crew of the GDR occupied the eighth place, the Federal Republic of Germany could not qualify for the tournament.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, the teams were divided into four groups against each other. The first three teams in each group qualified for the main round.

Group A in Pilsen

Group B in Prešov

Group C in Zlín

Group D in Žilina

Main Round

The top three teams in each group reached the main round. The teams came from the qualifying groups A and B in group I, the teams from Groups C and D in the Group II results from the direct duels of the teams from the same preliminary group were taken with the main round.
