1996 UEFA European Under-21 Championship
The 13 U -21 Football Championship was won back from Italy. It was the third consecutive victory for the Italians. Germany failed in the quarter-finals to France. The final round was held in the period from 28 to 31 May 1996 Spain. The tournament also served as a qualification in the European zone for the Olympic Football Tournament in Atlanta in 1996. Fabio Cannavaro was awarded the golden player.

All registered teams were divided into eight groups. The group winners determined in the return game, the four participants in the final round. The semi-final winners determined in the final of the European Champions, while the semifinal losers play for third place.
