This year, the French actress Isabelle Adjani was Jury President. She stood in front of a jury with the following members: Paul Auster, Luc Bondy, Tim Burton, Patrick Dupond, Gong Li, Mike Leigh, Nanni Moretti, Michael Ondaatje and Mira Sorvino.

A Palm of Palms was once awarded the 50th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. This special prize was awarded to Ingmar Bergman. A special award for his life's work was the Egyptian director Youssef Chahine, who was also represented by a film in competition.
