1999 (song)
1999 is a song by the musician Prince from 1982, in which his fears sings before nuclear war. The song was written by both him and produced and appeared on the eponymous double album in 1999.
History
The title was released on September 24, 1982 in the United States, and first reached number 44 in the U.S. singles chart. After Prince ' awareness in the United States was increased shortly thereafter, returned in 1999 in June 1983 in the U.S. singles chart and back, rising to number 12 as the maximum placement.
The song was re-released a total of five times, including in 1984 in the UK as a double A-side along with the song Little Red Corvette. Only after the fourth re-release in winter 1998/1999 abolished the song number 86 made it into the German singles chart.
The background vocals took three members of his backing band Prince and the Revolution: Lisa Coleman, Jill Jones and Dez Dickerson. Originally composed the Prince song with three harmonies, but later decided that the voices started in each verse.
In 1999, Prince took with his former backing band The New Power Generation song new to, produced a total of six remixes and named it in 1999 - at The New Master.
In 2004 the music magazine Rolling Stone chose 1999 to place 212 of the 500 best songs of all time.
