2005–06 Mestis season

The 2005/06 season was the sixth season in Mestis, the second highest Finnish ice hockey league. For the fourth time Jukurit Mikkeli won the Mestis championship.

Regular Season

Mode

Each team had to play four times against every other team in the league and once against the Finnish U20 national team of men. Each game consisted of three thirds of 20 minutes playing time. If it is after regular time have stood undecided, an extension was played. The first goal in extra time decided the game for the team that scored the goal. In the event that no winner after extra time was still found, the game was considered a draw.

A victory in the regular season and after extra time brought a team two points. A draw and a defeat after extra time was rewarded with a point. For a defeat in the regular season, there were no points.

Play-offs

Mode

Places 1-8 were qualified for the play- offs. For the semi-finals, the teams that had won in the quarterfinals against their opponents by five games, the most qualified. In the semi final was played also by the mode best-of- 5. The winners of those ties made ​​it to the finals, while the losers in the small final played for third place. In the final five games were played again. Who won the most games, was the winner of the season. In the round for 3rd place, only one game was played.

The respective opponents were put together so that the highest placed team plays against the worst, the second best, second-worst against, and so on. A game lasted, as in the high season, a total of 60 minutes. After the regular time extensions were of 20 minutes duration was played until a winner is found by a decisive goal.

Mestis qualifier

Mode

The two lowest ranked of the Mestis and the winners of the play-offs from the Suomi- sarja entered into a qualifying round of the fate in the Mestis or to move up against each other. Haukat presented before the start of the qualifying round next season on, and therefore did not participate. The games consisted of three thirds á 20 minutes. Was in the regular season no winner found an extension for five minutes was played. Level after extra time still no winner is determined, the game was considered a draw.

It was the same scoring as in the regular season. The three highest point totals play in the next season in Mestis. The remaining teams played in the Suomi- sarja.

Heinolan Kiekko, Savonlinnan Pallorkerho and Koo -Vee went on in the Mestis. Hermes rose from the Suomi- sarja. Kotkan Titaanit continued to play in the Suomi- sarja.
