2007–08 Bundesliga

The Bundesliga 2007/ 08 was the 45th season of the German top flight football. It started on 10 August 2007 with the play of the Master VfB Stuttgart against the runners-up FC Schalke 04 and ended on 17 May 2008.

German champion was the record title holder FC Bayern Munich, who could make 31 Matchday already on by a goalless draw in Wolfsburg winning the 21 championship perfect. Earlier, the Bavarians had already secured the DFB Cup by a 2-1 in extra time against Borussia Dortmund.

Descent had the 1st FC Nuremberg as the reigning Cup winner and the two newly promoted Hansa Rostock and MSV Duisburg.

Course of the season

Cup decision

The German giants Bayern Munich secured ultimately sovereign the twentieth title in the Bundesliga, and thus the 21 Championship; end of the season were ten points clear of runners-up Werder Bremen and to date fewest goals (21 ) Bundesliga history to book. This benefited the Bavarians who've been first Gameday on leaders and took only towards the end of the first round a slight weakness, blunders of the chaser at the beginning of the season. In particular, Bremen, that was the winter break still level on points with Bayern lost at this stage to connect to the eventual champions, but could assert itself as the runner- up after a strong season finale. Schalke 04 was two points behind third.

The reigning champion from Stuttgart could after a disappointing start to the season save only in the Intertoto Cup, towards the end had the Hamburger SV and - somewhat surprisingly - VfL Wolfsburg under new coach Felix Magath easily in the battle for places in the UEFA Cup the ahead. Wolfsburg had finished the first round at number eleven after numerous new arrivals, but reached number three in the back round table.

Midfield

In the first half of the Karlsruher SC caused a stir, the overwintered as promoted in sixth place. After a decent start in the second half, however, the Baden from built in spring significantly and ended the season as the second-worst round team back in eleventh place. Bayer Leverkusen also, which could hold up to the middle of the season after UEFA Cup places, playful, a good ranking in the last games of the season and reached for the first time since 2002/ 03 as seventh no international launch site. This led to the dismissal of coach Michael Skibbe.

Borussia Dortmund finished the season on a disappointing 13th place, but was due to reaching the DFB Cup Finals for the first time since the 2004 /05 again qualified for an international competition. Nevertheless, the club parted after the season by coach Thomas Doll. The table Tenth Hertha BSC received another UEFA Cup starting place through the Fair Play rankings.

Relegation battle

Already the winter break hinted that there would be a five- fight to avoid relegation behind the broad middle. Besides the two climbers from Duisburg and Rostock put Energie Cottbus, Arminia Bielefeld and Cup Winners' Cup the previous year from 1 FC Nürnberg long time in a relegation battle. While Cottbus (after a coaching change by Petrik Sander Bojan Prašnikar ) the relegation already succeeded at the 33rd match day, to Arminia Bielefeld delivered (Michael Frontzeck had Ernst Middendorp in winter replaced ) and the 1st FC Nuremberg on the final day, a distance duel to the whereabouts in the elite class. In the end, stayed for the Franks, the coach Hans Meyer had replaced by Thomas von Heesen in February, after a 0-2 against Schalke 04 only the ungrateful 16th place in the table and thus connected the seventh descent into the second division.
