The qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 was held in the years 2009 and 2010. Worldwide played 126 association teams to 15 starting places. The participants of the final round was completed at the host Germany.

The FIFA Executive Committee decided at its meeting on 23 and 24 October 2008, to distribute the number of places in the Confederations new.

  • UEFA (Europe): 5 or 6 participants, including hosts Germany
  • CAF (Africa ): 2 participants
  • AFC (Asia): 3 students
  • OFC ( Oceania ): 1 participant
  • CONMEBOL (South America ): 2 participants
  • CONCACAF ( North and Central America and the Caribbean): 2 or 3 participants

Between the fifth in the European zone and the third of North America zone playoffs were played in home and away matches. In addition defending champion Germany, qualify automatically as hosts. What is new is that in each confederation at least one third of the member associations must participate with their respective national team in the qualifiers. If this is not done, the FIFA Executive Committee will evaluate the launch site quota and reduce if necessary. Especially in Africa, it was in the past regularly to a variety of retreats before the qualifiers.

European Zone / UEFA

To take part in the qualifying matches 41 of the 53 UEFA member associations had registered their national team. The draw was made on 17 March 2009 at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. With Armenia, Azerbaijan and Macedonia three countries took part in a World Cup qualifier for the first time.

Mode

The 41 registered teams were divided into five Lostöpfe. Were the basis for the classification, the results of the respective national teams in qualifications for the World Cup in 2007 and the European Championships 2009. Lostöpfe A, B, C and D each comprised eight, the Lostopf E nine teams. The composition of the Lostöpfe was as follows:

  • Pot A: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, France, Russia, Ukraine, Italy.
  • Pot B: Finland, Iceland, Spain, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, Poland.
  • Pot C: Switzerland, Austria, Serbia, Belarus, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Hungary.
  • Pot D: Slovenia, Slovakia, Israel, Wales, Romania, Northern Ireland, Turkey, Bulgaria.
  • Pot E: Croatia, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Macedonia, Malta, Georgia.

During the draw, the teams were dissolved in eight groups. One group consisted of six, all other five teams. Within the groups was played in the Free-for -All system, which means that each team against each other in each case fought out a return game. The group matches were held in the period from 19 September 2009 to 25 August 2010.

The group winners qualify for the play- off games. Should two or more teams equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria were successively taken into account to determine the rankings:

  • A) Direct Comparison (number of points, goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored )
  • B ) repetition of criterion a) among the remaining teams
  • C ) Results of all group matches ( goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, fair play rankings )
  • D) The lot

The eight group winners were distributed by re- lots to four games. The teams identified in return game, the four directly qualified for the World Cup finals teams. These games were held on 11-12. and 15-16. Of September 2010. Group stage

Group 1

France and Iceland won all the games against other teams without conceding a goal. Group 3

The decision to win the group fell on the final day in the direct encounter between the two leading teams, with the Danes needed only a draw, while the Scots had to win. By 0-0, the Danes qualified as the last team for the playoffs, but if they win they would have achieved 4th place in the ranking of the group winners. As a fifth-placed they were drawn against a team ranked 1 to 4. With 5.63 goals per game, they had the best strike rate, and remained as the French women without conceding a goal. A third of all gates fell but the record win against Georgia.

Group 4

The decision to win the group fell in the last game between the two leading teams, with the Poles would have been sufficient a draw in Ukraine to feed into the playoffs. Play-off phase

Denmark missed the goalless draw against Scotland the status of a set team.

The draw for the play-off pairings took place in Nyon on 30 August 2010. Here, each set an unseeded team was randomly assigned. The matches will be played in home and away matches. The winners of the four games qualified directly for the World Cup finals. The four losers played in two other knockout rounds for a place in the play- off games against the third party of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in 2010. South American zone / CONMEBOL

The South African continental federation CONMEBOL determined his two participants in the Sudamericano Femenino as before, the continental championship. The tournament took place in the period from November 4 to November 21, 2010 in Ecuador instead. The subscriber quota had not changed compared to the qualification for World Cup 2007. Besides vice world champion Brazil, which was in all previous World Cup tournaments without, for the first time Colombia was able to qualify for a World Cup. North, Central American and Caribbean Zone / CONCACAF

The national teams of Canada, Mexico and the USA were automatically qualified for the finals. The remaining 20 teams played in two separate zones, Central America and Caribbean, the remaining five places in the finals.

In the final competition, Canada and Mexico as the winner could qualify as runner directly for the World Cup. The Americans, who for the first time lost in the semifinal game against the Mexicans, however, were in the play-offs against the Italians, the five placed teams from the European qualifiers, with two 1-0 wins as the third CONCACAF representatives for the final round qualify.

Qualifying mode

In the Caribbean Zone qualifying was held in two rounds. In the first round of 3 March to 1 April 2010 15 teams played in five groups of three for a place in the second round. Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago were given byes. Together with the five group winners and the best second point they made in the second qualifying round two groups of four. The group winners and runners- determined in a further round of the three Caribbean representative at the Gold Cup. It qualified Guyana, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago. In the Central America zone six participants played in two groups of three against each other. The two group winners Costa Rica and Guatemala were thus able to qualify for the finals.

Asian Zone / AFC

As with the previous World Championships, the Asian participants were played in the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was played in the People's Republic of China from 19 to 30 May 2010. A total of 16 of the 46 member associations had notified their respective national team.

The top five Asian teams were qualified for the final competition. These five teams were defending champions North Korea, China, Australia, Japan and South Korea. The other eleven teams played in two qualifying rounds for the remaining three places in the finals.

Mode

In the first qualifying round met in the period of April 25, on 3 May 2009 in Kuala Lumpur ( Malaysia), the five weakest teams to each other. The five teams played on the mode each against all three places in the second qualifying round. Jordan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were able to qualify for the second qualifying round.

The second qualifying round was played in three groups of three teams in the period from 4 to 14 July 2009. Within these groups, has also played against each after each mode. The three group winners, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam were able to prevail and qualified for the final tournament.

African Zone / CAF

The African continental federation CAF identified his two participants at the Africa Cup 2010 in South Africa. Of the 55 member associations, 24 their respective national had reported.

Eight teams participated in the final round. The two finalists qualified for the World Cup. Already with their victories in the semi-final, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea could qualify as qualified. For Equatorial Guinea, it is the first FIFA World Cup and the World Cup games are for Äquatorialguineerinnen the first games outside of Africa.

Qualifying mode

Hosts South Africa qualified automatically for the finals of the African Cup of Nations. The remaining teams were determined in two rounds in a knockout system with home and away matches.

In the first qualifying round met in the period from 5 to 21 March 2010 18 teams in nine successive games. Since Egypt, Kenya and Togo have withdrawn their teams again, only six games were held. The teams from Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and Tunisia received a bye.

The winners of the first round and the five roofed with a bye teams determined in the second qualifying round, the other participants in the final round. The games took place in the period from 21 May to 6 June 2010.

Oceanic zone / OFC

The oceanic continental federation OFC determined its representative at the Ozeanienmeisterschaft 2010. The tournament took place in the period from 27 September to 8 October 2010 in the New Zealand city of Auckland instead. Eight teams participated in the tournament. New Zealand was able to qualify as Oceania's representative.

Expulsion

The third of the CONCACAF qualifying (USA) managed to qualify against the fifth UEFA qualifiers (Italy ) with two 1-0 wins in return game as the last participant for the World Cup finals. The goals scored in both games were added. The team with the higher number of goals was the winner and qualified for the World Cup. Other criteria would initially have been the higher number of away goals scored. If even thereafter would still be no decision before the return would have been first extended and, if decided in a penalty shootout.

For the qualification in Africa and Asia Only the goals were considered in the continental championship, goalscorers of pre-qualification are not known. All listed Asian goalscorers were directly qualified for the Asia Cup. The oceanic and South American Championship was held without prequalification. The CONCACAF includes both the goals of qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup as well as the goals in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Italic marked players took part only in the pre-qualification, the USA, Canada and Mexico were directly qualified for the Gold Cup.
