2012–13 VHL season

The 2012/13 season the Wysschaja Hockey League is the 21st season of the second highest Russian Hockey League and the third since the founding of the League.

Changes compared to the previous year

  • The Donbass Donetsk HK changes in the Continental Hockey League.
  • Lokomotiv Yaroslavl who participated after the plane crash near Yaroslavl in the previous year as a visiting team at the Wysschaja Hockey League, plays back with the first team in the KHL. The second team of the club continues to participate in the Wysschaja Hockey League.
  • The HK Saryarka Karaganda Kazakhstan was included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The HK Junost Minsk from Belarus was accepted as an expansion team in the league.
  • The HK Kuban Krasnodar was added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The HK Buran Voronezh was added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The THK Tver was added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Mechel Chelyabinsk HK changed his name to HK Tschelmet Chelyabinsk.

Mode

The West and East conferences were resolved before the season and led instead all 27 participants on the European model in a common table. This denied each in return game against all other participants of the league, after which each team played a total of 52 games in the main round. The 16 best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs then, in which the second division champion is played. For a win within regular time each team receives three points for a win after extra two points with a defeat after extra time there is a point and a defeat after regular time zero points.
