2012 German Skeleton Championship

The German Skeleton Championship 2012 took place in Winterberg December 30, 2011. It was organized by Bob and Luge Association of Germany (BSD ), was hosted by the Bobsleigh and Luge Sport Club Sauerland Winterberg ( Winterberg BSC ), the venue was the bobsled in Winterberg country.

The championships were held for scheduling reasons, nor end of 2011. Due to weather conditions had the second passage be deleted, because of the heavy snowfall the competition could not be properly brought to an end. The first run was according to the rules so that only counted. With Alexander Gassner and the only 16 -year-old Jacqueline Lölling two Skeletonis surprisingly won the title.

At the start, all 22 participants were reported from ten clubs.

Alexander Gassner won his first title and underscoring its athletic development, due to which he can participate in the Skeleton World Cup since start of the season for the first time. Gassner benefited during his victory to be able to go as one of the local favorites on his home track. The second World Cup starter and three-time runner-up Frank Rommel came with rank six and three tenths of a second still in the top group, while the third World Cup starters Alexander Kröckel far to the front seats, drove past with rank 18. With more than one and a half seconds behind the leader with a second run would have been possible only a conditional improvement. Women

At the start, was 12 of 13 entered competitors from seven clubs.

With Jacqueline Lölling before Sophia Griebel won two junior athletes of the BSD title and runner-up, to fourth -placed with Lena yoke another young driver who like Lölling and Griebel already gained international experience, far forward. With 35 hundredths of a second Lölling had to Griebel also the greatest distance from the athlete in the lead group, which ranged up to sixth rank up to World Cup starter Katharina Heinz. Third was the reigning world champion Marion Thees. The defending champion and three-time champion Anja Huber was not at the start for health reasons. The changing and difficult weather conditions were partly responsible in addition to individual performance for the realization of classification.

Local hero Lölling confirmed with their title win on their home track a development that they 2011/12 is also advancing internationally since the 2010/11 season in the European Cup and the skeleton Skeleton Intercontinental. Only a little after the German championship, it confirmed its performance and won it at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck the title.
