The June 20, discovered in 1990 by David H. Levy and Henry E. Holt ( 5261) Eureka was the first known asteroid from the group of Mars Trojan. As trojans are asteroids that move on the orbits of the planets.

Probably the 2 km wide Eureka runs on the Lagrangian point L5 the orbit of Mars around the Sun. The perihelion distance is 1.4250 AU, the aphelion distance 1.6222 AU. The track has an eccentricity of 0.06470 and is strongly inclined with 20.2823 ° to the ecliptic.

The name derives from "Eureka " (Greek: " I have found it " ) from, a sentence which Archimedes is said to have done when he recognized the principle of buoyancy.
