Life

Abbas Hilmi II was the son of Khedive Tawfiq of Egypt. His training at the Military Academy Theresianumgasse in Vienna, he had to drop in 1892, as he became the successor of his father, who died suddenly.

With the occupation of Egypt by British troops in the wake of the destruction of the Urabi movement in 1882, Britain had taken control of the country to end without its mapping to the Ottoman Empire. Abbas II was formally still a vassal of the Ottomans. The British rule was represented by the General, who was an adviser to the Khedive, the actual ruler of the country.

Because of the support of the nationalist movement against the British occupation Abbas II was deposed by the British in 1914 during the First World War and he went into exile. He died on 20 December 1944 in Geneva.

Abbas Hilmi II 's successor was, as Sultan of Egypt, Hussein Khamil ( 1914-1917 ). Abbas Hilmi Pasha had the Hidiv Kasrı ( Pavilion of the Khedive Egyptian tower) built in Beykoz / Istanbul.
