Cabral (2011)

Adilson Tavares Varela ( born October 22, 1988 in Praia, Cape Verde ), short Cabral, is a Swiss footballer of Cape Verde origin, stood from 2007 to 2013 six years at FC Basel under contract. With Basel, he was five times Swiss champion. Since July 2013, he plays for Sunderland AFC. He is Right and plays as a defensive midfielder.

Career

Association

Cabral came in the summer of 2007 by the second Classic Challenge League Club FC Lausanne-Sport to FC Basel. There the young players came on 5 August 2007 on his debut in the Axpo Super League, when he came off the bench in the 1:5 defeat against BSC Young Boys Bern in the 85th minute for Carlitos. Shortly after his Einwechselung he prepared the consolation goal scored by Scott Chipperfield. In the rest of the season he was only sporadically used, but could at the end of the season to celebrate winning the league title and the Cupsiegs.

On 1 September 2008 he was loaned for the 2008/ 09 season at the Spanish club Sevilla FC, where he came in second team to 22 times, while he managed to score a goal. Since 1 July 2009, he again plays for FCB. Meanwhile, Christian Gross was sacked as manager and under the new boss Thorsten Fink he came to more inserts. His first Meisterschaftstor he scored on 6 December 2009 at the 3:2 home win against AC Bellinzona.

At the end of the 2012/13 season Cabral was with FC Basel for the fifth times Swiss Champion ( four times in a row ) and reached the final of the Swiss Cup, which they lost in a penalty shoot. In the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 he has moved with FC Basel semi-finals and had there against the reigning UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea take. They lost both the home and the away game and eliminated in the total score of 2-5 from. In a long season with a total of 76 games ( 36 in Super League, 6 in Cup, 20 in the Champions League and Europa League, including 14 test matches ) Cabral had a total of 59 missions, 27 of them in the Super League, four in the cup as well as 15 inserts in the Champions and Europa League and 13 in test matches.
