Air UK

AirUK was a British airline based in Stansted Mountfitchet and based on the London Stansted Airport. During the 1980s and early 1990s, it was Britain's third-largest airline.

History

AirUK was founded on 1 January 1980 by the merger of regional companies Iceland British Airways, Air West, Air and Air Anglia Wales. The first international route was opened to Amsterdam in November 1981.

During the 1990s, took over the Dutch KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the airline and started at the end of this decade, AirUK in KLM UK change its name. In 2000 KLM started the low cost airline Buzz, which then took over the route network of KLM UK from London Stansted as well as their fleet of BAe 146. Buzz was 2003 eventually even sold to Ryanair and fully integrated into it.
