Alec MacKaye

Alec MacKaye ( b. 1966 in Washington, DC ) is an American musician and singer, known for its punk and hardcore bands Untouchables, The Faith and Ignition. However, he is far better known as the little brother of Minor Threat / Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye. Alec's tantrums and passion during live performances make him one of the most popular but also often overlooked members of the revolutionary scene in DC Beginning of the 80s.

Life

With 13 years MacKaye founded the punk band The Untouchables, their first appearance was in 1979 in the basement of Nathan Strejcek along with the Teen Idles, the band at the time of his brother. Alec MacKaye asleep with his head on his knees, photographed by Susie Josephson, was the Cover of Minor Threat EP, First Two 7 " s on a 12" and the Complete Discography. It is one of the most famous covers of hardcore punk scene and has already been ( against the wishes of the band) used for a poster from Nike. His hands with the Straight - Edge X were already on the EP Minor Disturbance the teen idles shown.

MacKaye should first decide the successor of Henry Garfield take over at State of alert when this changed to Black Flag. However, MacKaye Garfield refused to sing lyrics. He founded and then rehearsed with various bands, but never resulted in a more intensive occupation until 1981 he founded The Faith, whose split with Void belonged to the classics of the American hardcore punk. The band existed until 1982. Middle of the 1980s was followed by the band Ignition. This band released two albums and several singles on Dischord Records. After a serious motorcycle accident Alec MacKaye had to take things a little less musically.

Mid-1990s, MacKaye joined the band The Warmers in as a singer and guitarist. Their album was released in 1996 on Same Dischord Records. Unlike other bands combined MacKayes The Warmers catchy riffs with indie rock influences. The album gained some attention in the college radio charts.

MacKaye worked for Dischord Records, the independent label that Minor Threat have built at that time and is also an employee of the Art Museum Phillips Collection in Washington, DC MacKaye tried also as an artist and author. Mondo James Dean, an anthology of poems and short stories by Richard Peabody and Lucinda Ebersole is dedicated to him. He was also a witness in the film American Hardcore involved with, a documentary about the hardcore scene.
