Alena Popchanka

Alena Popchanka (White Russian Алена Попчанка, Russian Алёна Попчанка / Aliona Poptschanka, scientific transliteration Alena Popčanka; born July 28, 1979 in Gomel ) is a Belarusian to 2005 and then French swimmer.

By 2002, she trained in Minsk. Then she emigrated to France and stayed at least one year in the French city of Melun until it remained from 2003 in Clichy and trained together with Frédéric Vergnoux. Since November 2005, she swims for their new home in France.

2003, at the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona, it was surprising world champion in the 200 meters freestyle.

At their title win over 200 meters freestyle at the European Short Course European Championships in Helsinki in 2006, it has provided this location in 01:54,25 min a new European record.

Popchanka took part in both the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens and 2008 in Beijing. In 2008 she presented in the flow with the French 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay in 07:50,37 min a new European record.
