Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis

Alfred " Pee Wee " Ellis ( * April 21, 1941 in Bradenton, Florida) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger.

Ellis grew up in Texas and had lessons in piano, clarinet and saxophone, partly with Sonny Rollins. He was in the 1960s and 1970s, solid saxophonist with James Brown, with whom he played from 1965 and where he was music director from 1967 to 1969. He has composed and arranged for James Brown. From 1969 to 1975 he was arranger with Esther Phillips. He also worked with Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1976 with Dave Liebman in San Francisco, in the 1980s, among others, Van Morrison, with Roberta Flack and George Benson. Later he formed with his partners Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, with whom he was with James Brown, The JB's and the 1988, the JB Horns, published as Roots Revisited plates. In the 1990s, he also published several solo albums.
