Alois von Brinz

Alois / Aloys Knights of Brinz, even Aloysius of Brinz, (* February 25, 1820 or February 26, 1820 in Weiler im Allgäu, † September 13, 1887 in Munich) was a German legal scholar, university teacher and politician.

Life

The eponymous father of Alois Brinz was a doctor of law, grandfather master baker in the hamlet. Brinz studied in Munich and Berlin and then entered the practical judicial service of his native Bavaria. In Berlin, Professor Adolf Friedrich August Rudorff had it encourages the incoming scientific study of Roman law, which he still intensified during his practical activity.

1851 appointed him to the University of Erlangen to associate professor. From 1854 he taught there as a professor of Roman law. In 1857, he continued the same teaching position at the University of Prague. In Prague Brinz was also politically active, in 1861 as a member of the Czech parliament and later the Austrian Imperial Council. In the Bohemian diet appeared as a dedicated parliamentary orator and politician and represented together with the other leaders of the German party Eduard Leopold Hasner of autumn and Artha decided to German interests. His reporting on the so-called Lehnsablösungsgesetz ascribed to the victory over the Czech federalism and the feudal aristocracy.

In 1866 he was called to the University of Tübingen. Here he completed his " Textbook of Pandekten ". A mandate for the Württemberg Landtag he did not attend, but he chose this as a member of the Constitutional Court.

From 1871, Alois of Brinz taught Roman Civil Law at the University of Munich and was eventually appointed Rector of the University. In 1872 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown and levied under the Order Statutes in the personal nobility. In 1883 he was elected a full member of the Historical category of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.

Family

From the family known politician Bernhard Vogel and his brother Hans -Jochen Vogel originate.

Works

Alois wrote Brinz of numerous articles on legal topics. The treatise The doctrine of compensation from the field of Roman law gave him recognition among the Romanists. His main work, the textbook of the Pandects, has been widely referred to as the original legal work of the 19th century.
