Andreas Goldberger

Andreas " Andi " Goldberger ( born November 29, 1972 in Ried, Upper Austria ) is a former Austrian ski jumper. He is one of the most successful ski jumpers of the 1990s.

Career

Growing up is " Goldi " in Upper Austria's forest cell. His parents Herta and Rudolf operate a farm there. Goldberger has two siblings, Johanna and Rudolf. He currently lives in St. Lorenz am Mondsee in Upper Austria.

After 14 years of World Cup history Goldberger ended his career on 29 May 2005. Since the winter of 2005/ 06 he worked as a co-commentator and expert ski jumping for the ORF. He is also still in the company of his manager Edi Federer. His last appearance as an active jumper he had on 13 January 2006 at the Ski Flying World Championships in Kulm. Hubert Neuper organized on this day A Tribute to Andreas Goldberger.

Goldberger posted 175 top- ten finishes at ski jumping events 1991 and 2005. He could had formed the success story of the Austrian ski jumping miracle team of the 1970s and early 1980s with Karl Schnabl and Anton Innauer, Hubert Neuper and Armin Kogler, the Professor Baldur Preiml, and the success of the two "twins" Andreas Ernst Vettori fields and continue in the 1980s and early 1990s with his career.

Records

  • On 17 March 1994 Goldberger jumped in Planica the first man over 200 meters, but could not stand the plunge. The first official "two hundreds" is therefore Toni Nieminen counted, who was a jump on 203 meters on the same day.
  • 2000 succeeded Goldberger also in Planica, a 225 - meter jump, which he then set a new ski flying world record.

Awards

Drug scandal

In 1997, Goldberger admitted to having used cocaine. There was a nearly six -month ban of the Austrian Ski Federation. Goldberger wanted to change the bandage and start for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, but finally remained in the Austrian Ski Federation, but could not build on his earlier successes thereafter. He had even entertaining accepted the Serbian citizenship, but he returned again after the Austrians had taken him back.

Dancing with the Stars

As of March 10, 2006 Goldberger took part in the second season of the ORF -show Dancing with the Stars. Together with dance partner Julia Polai he reached the second place behind Manuel Ortega.

Personal

On June 13, 2013 Goldberger married his longtime girlfriend Astrid Brandauer, whom he had met in 2004 while skiing. The marriage took place in a civil ceremony in St. Johann im Pongau and then church on the book mountain in Bischofshofen instead.
