Arduinici

The Arduine are the descendants of a Frankish knight Arduin ( Hardouin ), whose descendants came to power in northern Italy in the 10th and 11th centuries. His grandson Arduin Glabrio was one of the three nobles who got transferred one of the newly created margravates of King Berengar II in the reorganization of feudal structures, in this case, the Margraviate of Turin or " marcia arduinica " with the areas Auriate, Turin, Asti, Albenga and probably Bredulo, Alba and Ventimiglia.

The best known members of the family are Margrave Odalrich - Aginfred (formerly often translated Odalrich - Manfred ) and his two ( inheritance ) daughters Adelheid of Susa and Irmgard of Turin, who were married with two German noblemen, the Duke Hermann IV of Swabia (1030-1038) and his successor, the Duke Otto III. of Swabia (1048-1057), closer to bind with the aim of northern Italy to the Empire. Irmgard still occurs in addition to the wife of Egbert I, Margrave of Meissen, Adelheid ( from her third marriage with Count Odo of Savoy) as the mother of Empress Bertha of Turin.

The legacy of the family fell through this third marriage Adelaide to the House of Savoy and became the core of the Savoy possessions in northern Italy and thus the starting point of the Savoy monarchy.
