Arrondissement of Blaye

The Blaye district is an administrative district in the Gironde department in the French region of Aquitaine.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Gironde, a " district Blaye ", being the present arrondissement in many parts. On February 17, 1800 from the district was established. In the course of administrative reform of the canton of Saint -André -de- Cubzac joined on 1 May 2006 by the arrondissement Arrondissement Bordeaux to Blaye.

Geography

The district is bordered on the north and northeast of the district Jonzac in the department of Charente- Maritime ( Poitou -Charentes ), in the southeast of the arrondissement Libourne, in the south and south-west by the district of Bordeaux and on the northwest by the district Lesparre -Médoc on the opposite side of the estuary of the Gironde.

The district is subdivided into five cantons:

  • Blaye
  • Bourg
  • Saint -André -de- Cubzac (since 2006)
  • Saint- Ciers -sur -Gironde
  • Saint- Savin
