Artyomovsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast

Artjomowski (Russian Артёмовский ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 33 160 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the west of the West Siberian Plain, about 120 km north-east of Yekaterinburg Oblasthauptstadt near the mouth of the river Bobrówka (of Russian bobr for beaver, see coat of arms ) in the Irbit in the river system of the Ob.

Artjomowski is the center of a district of the same city.

At the station Jegorschino the city Artjomowski the railway lines intersect Yekaterinburg - Tavda ( opened in 1916 ) and Bogdanovich - Alapayevsk ( opened in 1918, and later on to Serov ).

History

At the site of the present city in 1665 was built the village Jegorschino. In its vicinity a coal deposit was discovered in 1871, their degradation began towards the end of the century. The associated mining camp was later, already in the Soviet period, the name imeni Artjoma after the revolutionary Fyodor Sergeyev (called " Artyom ").

1938 village and settlement were combined and received the present name of a town.

Culture and sights

The city has a Historical Museum.

In the former thermal power plant Jegorschino (Russian Егоршинская ГРЭС / Jegorschinskaja GRES ) is a museum of power was established. The power plant had after GOELRO Plan 1923 - first in the Urals - commenced operations and was decommissioned in 2003.

15 kilometers away from Artjowowski is located on the left bank of the Irbit the 10 -meter-high rock Pissany came ( Inscribed Stone ) with prehistoric rock carvings.
