Asian Institute of Technology

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Asian Institute of Technology ) is used to training in engineering, advanced technologies, management and planning. It has its headquarters north of Bangkok in Pathum Thani, Central Thailand.

History and mission

The Asian Institute of Technology was founded in 1959 as the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering, in order to educate highly qualified and dedicated engineers who play a leading role in the ongoing development in Southeast Asia and should support the region's integration into the globalized economy. Initially, only by the members of SEATO, the Institute is sponsored worldwide by institutions today.

By November 1967, the school was run by the Faculty of Engineering Chulalongkorn University, before it was established as an independent institution.

In 2006, the Asian Institute of Technology complaining a leading role in the further training of graduates in the region, and you work together with both the public and the private sector as well as with some of the best universities in the world.

Location

The campus of the institute is located right next to the Rangsit Center of Thammasat University in Pathum Thani, about 40 km north of the city center of Bangkok. Not far away there is also the Science Park Pathum Thani. In addition to its campus in Thailand more branches in Vietnam (AIT Center in Vietnam, since 1993 in Hanoi ) and the envisaged plans for centers in Indonesia and Pakistan.

Organization

The Asian Institute of Technology consists of three schools of AIT Extension, AIT Center in Vietnam and Indonesia. President Prof. Said Irandoust.

The three schools are

  • School of Engineering and Technology ( School of Engineering and Technology, SET)
  • School of Environment, Resources and Development ( School of Environment, Resources and Development, SERD )
  • School of Management ( School of Management, SOM)

Awards

In 1989, the Asian Institute of Technology, the Ramon Magsaysay Award - for peace and international understanding "for the creation of a new generation of engineers and managers who work for Asia, in an atmosphere of scientific performance and regional understanding".

Students

Slightly more than 100 academic staff ( from 22 countries ) serve nearly 2,000 students from 50 countries.

Memberships

The Asian Institute of Technology is a member of the Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network and the LAOTSE, an international network of leading universities in Europe and Asia.

Ranking

In the QS World University Ranking 2013, the AIT occupied in Geo - Marine Sciences and the second, in civil engineering, as well as accounting and finance fourth place within Thailand.
