Attenschwiller

Attenschwiller (Alsatian Atteschwiller, German Attenschweiler ) is a commune with 906 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the canton of Huningue and community association Porte du Sundgau.

Geography

The community Attenschwiller located on the eastern edge of the Sundgaues, five kilometers from the Swiss border. The average height is higher than that of the six kilometers northeast lying Basle-Mulhouse airport at about 360 meters above the sea, almost 100 meters. Despite the proximity to the airport, the noise stops Attenschwiller through the wooded, hilly terrain between place and the airport within limits, also the place is transverse to the main - fly zone.

History

In 1187 Attenschwiller was first mentioned. The place was like the entire surrounding area to the monastery of La Petite.

The village Attenschweiler was largely spared by its location off the main road links in the wars since 1618. After the outbreak of the Second World War, the residents were evacuated Attenschwillers in the Landes department in southwestern France. They returned in May 1940. On November 20, 1944, the last German troops withdrew from Attenschwiller.

The Church of St. Valentin, built in 1655 and originally dedicated to St. Romanus, was rebuilt in 1878 in late Gothic style.

Economy and infrastructure

Characteristic of Attenschwiller are long rows of fruit trees and vineyards. In addition to agricultural and small service businesses, most community residents earn their living in the metropolitan area of Basel / Saint- Louis.

Attenschwiller is the site of a primary school and a kindergarten.

Four kilometers east of Attenschwiller is the transport hub Hésingue. Here meet several nationally important roads leading to Mulhouse, Basel, Altkirch / Belfort, Huningue / Weil am Rhein and Ferrette. The nearest links to the Autoroute A35 is located eight kilometers east ( Saint- Louis).

From 1915 to 1960, the municipality had a joint station with Michel -le -Haut on the railway line Waldighoffen -Saint -Louis- la- Chaussee. The station had three continuous tracks and a loading track.
