Audi A2
The Audi A2 is a minivan from Audi, produced from November 1999 to July 2005 in Neckarsulm.
Design
In 1996, Stefan Sielaff, the project responsibility for the showcar Light green and light blue. Together with Luc Donckerwolke, who was responsible for the appearance, he designed a show car until 1997 for the International Automobile Exhibition in Frankfurt. The series production of the Audi A2 was launched with the idea of moving the finished prototype at the 1999 IAA. The lead designer Peter Schreyer and Gerd Pfefferle received the 2002 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany for the design work on the A2 and A4 of the second generation.
A2 3L TDI
This 3 -cylinder 1.2 TDI Low-energy vehicle differs in many features from the other Audi A2.
The automated transmission is operated as in the identically powered VW Lupo 3L, hydraulically via a selector lever and forces by an optimized ECU software very early gear changes. The selectable Eco mode is automatically switched on if the gas removal in the freewheel to lose no energy through engine braking effect. In addition, the start -stop system is activated, stops the engine after four seconds standstill. When switching to the automatic mode is automatically switched to Eco Mode, which also a more economical engine management with a maximum of 33 kW of power is activated. To reduce weight, the chassis is partly made of aluminum and a more compact design; the rear seats are not designed as a lightweight and not be split; the vehicle has only one 20-gallon fuel tank; the panoramic roof open sky, air conditioning and other otherwise available optional equipment are not installed in this version. Standard aluminum - magnesium wheels were fitted with tires of the dimension 145/80R14 on the vehicle, the lower the rolling resistance significantly.
Due to weight and aerodynamic optimization of the car until today (as of 2010 ) with its standard fuel consumption of 2.99 liters per 100 km, the only go into volume production five-door three-liter car. Technology support
According to the Audi AG new technologies and concepts have been used for the first time in a large series both in the construction and in the production of the vehicle. The A2 has an aluminum body, based on the Audi Space Frame technology at that time otherwise only used in the Audi A8.
Classification
One problem with the Audi A2 is the classification into the usual categories such as cars, compact class, or minivan. The Audi A2 was developed as a direct competitor to the Mercedes A-Class and corresponds in size and factory price. Both vehicles are at a comparable interior much shorter but higher than a VW Golf IV (length and wheelbase are similar to those of a VW Polo 6N). Yet for Mercedes, it was possible to establish the A-Class as a direct competitor to the VW Golf, as you previously did not have a model of this class - however, different at Audi where there was already a vehicle in the compact class with the Audi A3.
Even the name "A2 " shows that the placement "below the A3 " happened. This led to the dilemma that these two were reported by their manufacturers at the Federal Motor Transport Authority in different vehicle classes from both the concept and the size very similar cars A-Class and A2. So also it is in the ADAC breakdown statistics of A2 under " Small Class ", the A-Class in the "Lower middle class."
Demand
In the five and a half years of construction ran 176 377 copies of the A2 from the tape. Of these, 6450 3L versions ( 1.2 TDI ).
In order to boost the relatively sluggish sales, Audi brought in 2003 the special model " colour.storm " on the market. This was distinguished externally by conspicuous colors with contrasting matte black roof and black plastic parts on the fenders, doors and bumpers. However, this model did not yield any significant turnaround in sales.
Callbacks
On 1 January 2008, the Federal Motor Vehicle Office issued a recall for the Year 2004, as by insufficient sized bolts on the fuel pump this can tear, resulting in the emission of diesel fuel.
Reviews
According to the ADAC breakdown statistics of A2 scored the first place in its class in the years 2003 to 2008. Likewise, the vehicle is 2004 due to its flawlessness first place in the TÜV - statistics. Further appreciation experienced by the A2 due to the very low pollutant emissions.
