Auerodendron

Auerodendron is a plant genus of the family of the buckthorn family ( Rhamnaceae ). The representatives of the genus are native to the Caribbean and southern Florida.

Description

In all species of the genus is unreinforced shrubs that reach 2-10 meters Height usually. The leaves are stalked and simple and are on opposite sides. The small five petals are individually or in paniculate inflorescences. They usually form red or black drupes; this indicates that the bird spread.

Dissemination

Most species of the genus Auerodendron are endemic to Cuba, but others occur in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and southern Florida.

The genus Auerodendron 1924 set up by Ignaz Urban in Symbolae Antillanae seu Fundamenta Florae Indiae occidentalis, 9, pp. 221. Type species is Auerodendron cubense ( Britton & N.Wilson ) Urb ..

The genus belongs to the tribe Auerodendron Rhamneae in the Rhamnaceae family and is closely related to the genera Rhamnidium, Karwinskia and Reynosia. The genus includes about ten species Auerodendron:
