Until 1871 there was only one community called Avricourt, geographically separated by the railway line Nancy- Strasbourg. The division was made according to the German - French war between France and the German Empire. The northern part Avricourts came to Germany. Since the train station in the southern part Avricourts and was thus in France, 1875, a separate border station was built on the German side. The German northern part of Avricourt was now officially German - Avricourt and was renamed in 1915 in Elfringen.

In November 1918, the place was indeed returned to France, but remained a separate municipality and was not re- affiliated with the south (today neighboring municipality in the department of Meurthe Avricourt -et-Moselle ).
