Bad Dürkheim (district)

The district of Bad Durkheim is a district in the south of the state of Rhineland -Palatinate in the Rhine -Neckar. Fairly central is the county town of Bad Durkheim. The car license plate DÜW is derived from Bad Durkheim and wine route.

Geography

Geographical location

The district of Bad Durkheim lies in the Palatinate between Ludwigshafen on the Rhine in the east and in the west of Kaiserslautern. The west of the district has a share in the Palatinate Forest, the East still belongs to the Upper Rhine Valley, the center is part of the hills on the German Wine Route, which runs from north to south for a distance of some 30 kilometers through the circle.

Structure and boundaries

The district extends from north to south by Bock home to Hassloch, in east-west direction from Frankenstein to Ellerstadt. It reaches its greatest extent with 42 kilometers (air distance) between Elmstein in the southwest and Dirmstein in the Northeast.

Neighboring districts are in the north of Alzey-Worms district, in the east the district-free city of Worms and the Rhein- Pfalz-Kreis, in the south of the county-level city of Neustadt on the Wine Route and the county Southern Wine Route, in the southwest of the county Southwest Palatinate region and in the west the district of Kaiserslautern, the Thunder mountain district and the district-free city of Kaiserslautern.

History

The district of Bad Durkheim was formed in 1969 as part of the district reform in Rhineland -Palatinate from parts of the two counties resolved Frankenthal and Neustadt on the Wine Route (formerly Neustadt an der Haardt ). The two old counties were created by the Kingdom of Bavaria, to which today the district belonged from 1816. In 1946, both parties part of the then newly created state of Rhineland -Palatinate and belonged first to the government district Palatinate, from 1968 Rheinhessen-Pfalz.

Coat of arms

Through a two blue, green stalked grapes with green leaves occupied silver stake split: right in black on the left inverted, red reinforced golden lion; left in a blue red reinforced silver eagle. The coat of arms ceremony took place on 22 January 1973.

The Palatinate lion stands for the Palatinate, which until modern times, dominated the southern district area from the Middle Ages, and the eagle to the kings of Leiningen, which belonged to the northern area. The silver pole symbolizes the German Wine Route, which runs through the county territory, there are two grapes for its two major wine regions Mittelhaardt - German Wine Route and Southern Wine Route.

Partnerships

For the district of Starnberg in Bavaria exist since 1980 " friendly relations ". 1990, a formal partnership with the county Stadtroda in Thuringia was decided that the rose in the Saale- Holzland 1994. The most recent partnership is with the Polish district Kluczborski since 2000. In addition, the district of Bad Durkheim care of the existing since 1968 partnership between the German Wine Route and the Wine Road.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

Typical of the County of wine is around 7200 hectares of vineyards, but also fruits and vegetables are grown. Thanks to the mild climate to grow, for example, almonds, figs, oranges and lemons.

In addition to agriculture, tourism is another source of income for many residents of the district. In the Palatinate Forest Nature Park you will find the Palatinate Park, a wildlife conservation park above the town guard home. The Holiday Park in Hassloch also attracts thousands of visitors annually to the Palatinate.

Traffic

Traffic Technically, the district of Bad Durkheim is well connected. The Federal Highway 6 (Mannheim -Saarbrücken ) leads through the northern circuit area, the federal motorway 65 (Karlsruhe, Ludwigshafen) touches the southern district area in Haßloch. The Federal Highway 61 ( Speyer- Ludwigshafen -Koblenz ) takes only a few kilometers east of the county border and crosses over both the A 6 and the A 65

Public transport is united in the transport association Rhein- Neckar. Through the district run the important railway route of the Palatine Ludwig Railway Mannheim -Saarbrücken ( Paris ) and the Palatine Northern Railway ( Neustadt on the Wine Route ) Bad Durkheim Green City ( - Monsheim ). The Rhein- Haardt Bahn ( RHB ) runs from Bad Durkheim to Ludwigshafen and Mannheim, where it is thanks to the same track width linked by tram. Only in Musumsverkehr however, the Kuckucksbähnel Lambrecht - Elmstein is operated.
