Baláže

Baláže (Slovak 1948-1968 and until 1927 alternatively " Blaze "; Hungarian Balázs, German until the 16th century Liptscherseifen ) is a town in central Slovakia, with 215 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and is located in Banská Bystrica Okres that belongs to the Banskobystrický kraj.

Geography

Baláže located in the mountains Starohorské Hills in the shadow of the east lying on the Low Tatras Ľupčica Bach ( German Liptsch ), the creek and Čeremošné formed by the confluence of the Banský and down the valley opens out into the Hron. The center is located 15 kilometers from Banská Bystrica.

The municipal area since 1949 and also the former place Kalište which lies further up the valley.

History

The village was founded in the 15th century at the former territory of the neighboring town Priechod and grew two copper smelters by the stream Ľupčica that were founded by a Banskobystricky miner named Johann Kolmann. In 1529 the place is mentioned as Huttae Lyptczyczae 1531 as gaza Lyptzcicz and 1540 as Lypschersaifen. After several changes of ownership, the huts came towards the end of the 15th century in the possession of the company Thurzos Fugger, who owned the cabins to 1546. After its decline, the remaining independent miners processed until the mid 17th century, the dump material. Then since the 18th century forestry and charcoal were the main occupations of the population.

After 1918, the belonging in the county Sohl and the Kingdom of Hungary place came to Czechoslovakia. Baláže played a significant role during the Slovak National Uprising (SNP ) in 1944 and was with Kalište the center of the so-called " Partisan Republic ". After the suppression of the SNP of the place remained vacant continue until it burned down on 20 March 1945 by the German troops and entire population was killed, just as had happened in Kalište two days earlier. 1947 began the reconstruction of the place; 1949 came to Baláže the municipality of Kalište, which was never rebuilt.
