Balinghem
Balinghem is a commune with 1165 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais.
Geography
The community is located 16 km southeast of Calais, on the D228 between Ardres and Guines.
History
Until January 7, 1558, the area around Calais to Balinghem belonged to the dominion of the King of England. From 7 to June 24, 1520 met at the Camp du Drap d'Or, Francis I of France and Henry VIII of England. On the host side, the meeting Thomas Wolsey had prepared, which was in personal union apostolic nuncio and Lord Chancellor of England. The French guests emphasized the role of Galiot de Genouillac as an organizer.
